I Made It!

Hello from Philadelphia!

It was definitely an interesting journey, but I made it and I’m ready for the Healthy Living Summit :)

Like any good trip, this one started with a bagel from Timmies. It held me over on the drive to Buffalo, which is a little longer than the drive to Toronto but so much cheaper it’s usually worth it.

I never seem to have good luck with travel, and today was no exception. While I was stuck in a long lineup at the border, I got successive phonecalls telling me my flight had been delayed one hour, then two hours, then three hours… which means I would definitely miss my connection. Luckily when I got to the airport I was switched to a direct flight that left two hours later than my original flight but would get in about the same time, so I was relieved.

Unfortunately, half an hour after we were supposed to board they announced that the plane was still on the tarmac… in Philadelphia. And that they would let us know when it would be arriving for us once it actually left. Sigh. So once again, more waiting.

I had a beer.

I ate an expensive sandwich.

I took pictures in the bathroom.

And I read The Help on my Kindle.

The plane did arrive eventually, and then after some more issues with shuttles and a total of 10 hours of travelling, I finally arrived at the hotel in one piece. That’s all the matters, right? :)

Plus it’s hard to not feel great when you have a whole king size bed to yourself. Those six pillows are all for me ;)

After running around airports for so long, I was pretty hungry. I munched on an apple I got from the front desk (so cute!), but my stomach was still grumbling.

I went out to try and scrounge something up for dinner, but everything seemed like it was already closed and the heavens opened up and started pouring down on me, so I hurried back to the hotel and decided that the hotel restaurant would be juuuust fine ;)

IMG_4615.jpg

The restaurant is called Thirteen, and had a simple menu that still sounded delicious.

I got an unsweetened iced tea to drink while I was waiting for my meal. I <3 unsweetened iced tea, but you can’t order it at restaurants in Canada so I always take full advantage in the States.

For my actual meal I got the turkey burger topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion and turkey bacon. I’ve never had a completely turkey-ed out burger before, and it was really good. The turkey bacon made it especially awesome, and the burger was so juicy that it kept dripping on the plate.

It came with a side of chips and spicy pickles, both of which were also delicious :)

To go along with an awesome meal, I had an awesome waiter. I don’t know exactly what it was about him, but he was so friendly and warm and it made my meal even better.

He even brought me a Lindt chocolate with the bill :)

Now after a long day, I can’t wait to relax and recharge for the fun to begin tomorrow.

My king-sized bed awaits! Night :)

The Day Before

Wow, where did the summer go!? One minute I’m studying my way through the school term, and the next exams have been over for a week and it’s the day before I leave for the Healthy Living Summit.

I meant to jump back into blogging right after exams, but this term was completely draining so many ways, and I needed a few days of absolute nothingness to help recharge.

IMG_4404.jpg

Beer might have also helped a bit ;)

My eating has been all over the place lately, partly due to stress and partly due to the I’m-going-to-be-travelling-soon-and-then-moving-shortly-after limbo state my kitchen is currently in.

Luckily I still had the makings of a good breakfast hanging around. I woke up a little late today (hallelujah for holidays) and opted to have some eggs with buttered toast for my “brunch”. I’m definitely a breakfast person, and would rather have breakfast and forego lunch than the other way around when my day starts later than usual.

IMG_4584.jpg

I munched on an apple while running around trying to make sure I didn’t forget anything important in my last minute packing. I’m the worst at doing things on time!

I decided to grab dinner while I was out running errands, and opted for Arby’s.

IMG_4586.jpg

I had a roast beef sandwich with cheese, veggies and horsey sauce.

IMG_4592.jpg

Horsey sauce is a horseradish mayonnaise sauce that tastes great on everything. I haven’t been to Arby’s in years and almost forgot to ask for some!

IMG_4588.jpg

Who can say no to curly fries? Not me :)

I’m still trying to check off everything on my mental list. I always forget one thing, and I just try to cut my losses by making sure that one thing isn’t something extremely important.

See ya when I’m on my way to Philly!

Do you pack ahead of time or last minute? Are you going to the HLS this year?
