Morning to Night
Hello all, how are you all doing? Happy Fat Tuesday!
Unfortunately I didn’t eat any pancakes today, but I had have a lot of other delicious eats.
It’s been a while since I’ve actually posted all of my food for the day, and I kind of miss it. I like recipes and fun facts, but sometimes I just like talking about what I ate for dessert
So let’s get to it!

I’m running a little low on breakfast supplies right now, so I ended up throwing together a smoothie to bring into work with a bunch of stuff from the freezer. It has almond milk, frozen banana, frozen strawberries, protein powder, raw oats, maple syrup and ice. It was just as tasty as it looked, although I think the other woman in the parking lot thought I was a little crazy when I had an impromptu photoshoot on my car roof.

For lunch, I had some leftovers that I got packed up at Fresh last night. I got the prix fixe meal, because for an extra $3 I got an order of avocado white bean dosas and a chocolate chunk cookie that I knew would make a perfect lunch. It was a great idea, and really sped up my prep this morning

I packed a few snacks to go with my leftover lunch. Hard boiled eggs are coming back into my life <3
After a looooong day of work, I wasn’t really in the mood to put effort into anything, including cooking. Dinner today ended up being so simple that it only had three ingredients.

Napa cabbage,

angel hair pasta,

and sesame dressing.

Cooked using giant cooking chopsticks, just because I’m cool like that

All I did was boil the pasta and cabbage together.

And then drained it and added the sauce. Boom.

Quick and easy asian pasta dish with lots of veggies. Yum

Dessert was some durian, which was sososo good. Dare I say, better than ice cream?
I’m still feeling too lazy to do anything, which doesn’t bode well for my kitchen. Anyone want to come do my dishes for me?
I’m sure they’ll still be there tomorrow, hopefully when I’m feeling less lazy.
Have a good night!

Alternately titled: Why Callie Doesn’t Like The Big Carrot.
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, which may or may not have been related to the amount of beer that was consumed last night.

I ate a bowl of cereal, rolled around in bed for an hour willing my headache to go away, and then decided to put on my big-girl panties and face the world. I had exciting plans for myself, and no hangover would get in the way of that!

After getting ready, I hopped on the subway and zoomed toward my destination. I brought a tiny apply to snack on, because I knew I’d be hungry after just a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

I’ve heard about The Big Carrot a lot, but I’m not usually in the Danforth area, so I’d never made the time to actually go. When I found myself with a free Saturday this week, I decided to take the oppourtunity to check it out. Unfortunately, this grocery store wasn’t really my cup of tea. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was underwhelmed
The store was pretty small, it was really hard navigating through the narrow aisles, everything was more expensive than WF, and the vegetarian cafe didn’t look appetizing at all.
I headed over to the juice bar to check out the options there, but didn’t feel like shelling out $20 for a juice and a tiny salad, so I left hungry and very grouchy.

Luckily, one of my favourite restaurants was on the way home
It was almost 4 (!!) by the time I got around to eating lunch, so I was a little bit past the hungry stage.

I went with the prix fixe menu, and inhaled some cornbread and hummus to start.

I’ve never considered any of their hot juices before, but it was really chilly out today and the apple pie smoothie sounded like the perfect thing to warm up with.

This drink did not disappoint – I absolutely loved it! It was really toasty, and actually tasted exactly like an apple pie

And my beloved green goddess bowl on soba noodles <3 Today’s bowl was extra awesome because it didn’t have any swiss chard – score!
What wasn’t awesome was the screaming baby sitting right next to me. The entire time I was there it was crying and crying and crying, which grated on my already-short nerves. I was trying to find my happy place, but my happy place generally doesn’t have screaming children in it. Bah.

I stopped by Menchie’s for an obligatory froyo on the way home. I filled my cup with cake batter, tart and green apple tart froyo, and topped it with graham crumbs, mochi, white chocolate chips and reeses cereal. I also had about a million samples while deciding which kinds to get. It was amazing, as always <3

I wandered the streets for a bit to take some pictures, and then hopped on the subway home.
I was really sleepy by the time I got home, and was excited to enjoy a night in with myself, my pyjamas and a movie. I watched Eat Pray Love (it was just alright), and slothed it up big time on the couch.

I had my green goddess leftovers for dinner (also on the couch).

And a chocolate chunk cookie for dessert
I don’t know how they make these cookies at Fresh, but I’m absolutely in love with them!
I’m a lot less grumpy now that my stomach’s full and I’ve had a relaxing night in. I have a wake-up call for yoga tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll be able to start Sunday off in a better mood
Have a good night!
What makes you grumpy? For me, it’s definitely being hungry, tired or feeling rushed!

Long time no see, juice!

Juice always sounds like a good idea, but I never seem to have the motivation to want to clean the juicer afterwards. I’ve been hoarding a bunch of old veggies that are past their eating prime but perfect for juicing – a mealy russet apple, wilty celery, cucumber, carrots and a huge beet.

Thanks to all the celery, I ended up with an enormous glass of juice. Look at all the foam! I <3 foam, it makes the juice so creamy
It’s good to know that even though I seem to let veggies go bad, it doesn’t mean they have to go to waste.

With my fresh juice, I had a sandwich I picked up from Panera.

I finally tried the tuna salad on honey wheat, which sounded like it would taste good, but didn’t really live up to expectations. They used light miracle whip instead of real mayo for the tuna salad – blech! I’ll stick to my napa chicken salad from now on

I still loved the Panera pickle hidden in the wrapper!

And a cute apple on the side. Since I already had an apple in my juice, I’m saving this one for lunch tomorrow.
I can’t believe that tomorrow is already Friday – this week seems to have flown by! One more workday and then we’re free
Has this week been fast or slow for you?

Hello blog friends!
Do you ever get stuck in a breakfast rut? I do, but right now I’m perfectly content in my rut.

Every morning for the past week I’ve had a vanilla chobani with chocolate chunk hazelnut biscotti granola (from Target – best granola ever!!) and a banana. I decided to change it up a little bit by using strawberries instead, which was just as amazing <3 I think I could eat this breakfast forever.

During the week I was getting sick of thinking of new lunches everyday, so I made 2 portions of the same dish and killed two birds with one stone in that respect. A fried egg with bok choy and black beans, an apple, carrot sticks and a cookies n’ cream Lunabar. Quick and simple, right?
DInner was anything but quick and simple, though. My mom has a friend who’s daughter lives in Toronto, and whenever she’s in town for business we usually get together for dinner. Last time we just walked around until something caught our eye, but this time we planned to go to Fuzion, a nice resto-lounge in the area. We actually planned to go for Winterlicious, but realized that our date was for the day before it started – oops! We weren’t too disappointed to be eating off the regular menu, though

I started with a soho pear martini, which was perfect. They had a terry’s chocolate orange martini as well, so I definitely need to go back to try it!

The waiter recommended getting an appetizer and an entree, so my mom and I ordered the Fuzion Chophouse Salad to start. I think there was some sort of mix-up, because they actually brought us the Greens salad instead. My mom had originally wanted to order it but I veto-ed it because of red peppers (eww), so I just picked out the peppers and went from there.

For my entree I got the Asparagus Gnocchi, which were filled with sheep’s milk ricotta and served with greens, asparagus and pine nuts. It was out of this world delicious – seriously, sooooo good! Usually gnocchi creep me out a little bit because they look like maggots, but these looked and tasted amazing.

I asked for the waiter’s rec on which white wine to get, and he recommended the pinot grigio. I forget the exact name, but it was probably the best pinot grigio I’ve ever had. Apparently it’s not available in the LCBO, so I doubt I’ll be having it again anytime soon
For my pasta, I opted out of the addition of veal because I figured the money and stomach space would be better saved for dessert, and I was right.

My mom and I split a warm, fudgey brownie topped with chocolate truffle and served with a white chocolate pistachio ice cream. Hell. Yeah.

The others split a trio of creme brulee, which looked amazing but we unfortunately didn’t get to try. My mom ordered one for us to split as well, but apparently they ran out of creme brulee, so we didn’t really get a chance to try them
I couldn’t resist getting out the last little bit left in their green tea brulee bowl just to taste, and it was totally worth it.
Even though there were a few kinks along the way, I would go back to Fuzion in a heartbeat. The food was amazing, the atmosphere was really nice, and it was a great place to spend an evening with friends.
Now if only I could win the lottery so I could eat like this everyday…
Panera
Hello hello!
I’ve been busy lately, but don’t think I’ve already forgotten about blogging
Because I’ve been running around to the gym, on errands and just generally all across town for the past few days I haven’t really had the chance to document my eats, but today I was diligent and managed to snap a few pictures.

Even though it was freezing cold outside, the fresh spinach in my fridge was calling my name, and I knew I wanted a green monster for breakfast. It was my usual mix of almond milk, spinach, frozen banana, protein powder, maple syrup and ice – yum!

Lunch was super bright and fresh today because I want to use up most of my produce before I head away for the weekend. I made a big, leafy salad with a side of apple and carrots + hummus.

The salad had spinach, avocado, hummus and celery that I rescued from the fridge. I bought the celery under a week ago and it was already so soft and wilted that I could almost bend it to touch itself!! I don’t know why my fridge seems to kill vegetables
Help?

Snacks for the day were fresh blueberries and a Lunabar.
I was on the run after work again for an appointment on the other side of town and a meeting with a friend, but luckily I was passing by one of my favourite places to grab a quick meal.

I’d read about Panera on blogs before and thought it was only in the US, but was really excited when I recently found one right next to Square One in Mississauga.

As you can see, they have tons of varieties of fresh breads, and their food seems a lot fresher than most grab-and-go type places.

I ordered the same thing I’ve gotten every time just because it’s been so good – the napa almond chicken salad sandwich. It’s so delicious and even has grapes in the chicken salad!

I also love that the Panera meals come with an apple. I <3 apples

Today the display of Valentine’s cookies caught my eye, and I couldn’t help but get one just because they looked so cute. It was absolutely delicious and lived up to the cute exterior
Now I need to go pack and get myself to bed so I can be ready for a fun-filled weekend
Ttyl!
