Creepy Crawlies

Hellooooooo :) How’s your Monday going?

I’m pretty exhausted from the weekend, which was filled with things like Oktoberfesting and keg stands. Probably not the best cure for someone who’s had some kind of lingering cold for almost a month now, but definitely fun nonetheless. Besides, alcohol is sterilizing, right? ;) Anyway, a little sleepiness today was worth it for the fun times I had with friends from school, and this cold can bite me.

I got back to Toronto nice and early yesterday to make sure I could start off the work week with some delicious food.

I baked a batch of Bakerella’s chocolate chunk muffins, and took one regular one and one mini one into work for breakfast. They were delicious, and I’m so glad I decided to make a full batch rather than just a half batch. These are gonna disappear pretty quickly ;)

In an effort to make my packed lunches more interesting, I’ve reverted back to bento lunches. Lunch is usually the meal I never look forward to, but when I have a cute bento box waiting for me, I can’t help but be a little excited. The only problem is making them cute always seems to take me forever, so I’m working on cutting down time with some sneaky tricks.

Today’s bento was chicken nuggets with sesame spinach, cherry tomatoes and rice.

With a ketchup + Japanese mayo mix underneath for dipping everything.

I also brought a Chobani and a banana for snacks. Another shipment of yogurt came from our The Great Fundraising Act prize, so I’m basically swimming in yogurt right now. Gotta step up my yogurt-eating!

Dinner wasn’t fancy, but it was something I’ve been craving since Saturday. President’s Choice makes a frozen 7-cheese veggie lasagna that I’ve always loved, and I missed out on getting some on Saturday night at a friend’s house. I couldn’t stop thinking about it, so I got myself one for dinner today. Waiting the hour for it to cook was terrible, because I got home late from work and was super hungry, and even though I ate another muffin while I was watching the clock, my stomach was still growling. When all was said and done, I think I ate about half the lasagna. Just as delicious as I remember :)

I was thinking about going to the gym (hah), but I was full of lasagna and opted for a relaxing night in instead. The gym will always be there tomorrow, right? I was chilling with a friend while I was watching Jersey Shore and blogging…

…but he (she?) seems to have disappeared while I wasn’t looking. I told them I wouldn’t squish them as long as they didn’t come anywhere near my head or have millions of spider babies, so hopefully that deal is still on because even though I know they’re myths, I don’t want baby spiders growing up in my brain thankyouverymuch.

I’m off to get ready for bed, and hopefully my little spider buddy is doing the same… somewhere that’s not near me.

Spiders: yay or nay?

Bricked

IMG_3790.jpg

I took a chocolate PowerBar energy gel about 5km into the bike ride. This one was very similar to the Gu – it was easy to eat, but the taste wasn’t as good as the Clif Shot. I felt alot more energetic after taking it, and powered through 12.71km.

IMG_3796.jpg

I even stuck to my race pace of 27km/h! (The average speed dropped a little bit because I wheeled my bike a bit after riding.)

IMG_3792.jpg

After quickly locking up my bike, changing my shoes and blowing my nose, I was ready to run.

Running right after biking was the weirdest feeling ever – for the first few minutes it felt like I didn’t even have legs! I took off at a speedy 8:30min/mi pace (!!), probably because I was used to pedalling faster, and slowed down a lot once my lungs began feeling it.

IMG_3793.jpg

I tried to keep going even when I was moving uphill, but I had to take a few walking breaks, and ended up finishing 2mi in 20:43.

All in all, I think this was a good brick to end with, and I feel a lot more prepared for the race now that I’ve experienced the jelly legs. I’m planning on doing an easy 5km run tomorrow, and then an easy yoga class on Thursday just to stretch everything out really good, and then no more training until the race on Saturday. Unless you count eating carbs as training ;)

Usually I crave sweet breakfasts, but today all I wanted was an egg + cheese sandwich from Tim Hortons, so that’s what I got. It was so good!

IMG_3801.jpg

With a banana + mugicha. I’m bringing back the barley tea for the summer!

I quickly chowed down on my breakfast before my bio midterm, which went alright… I hope. Unfortunately, the work never ends for us so I headed to a study room to begin prepping for the next midterm.

IMG_3803.jpg

While I procrastinated studied, I had a green lettuce salad with baby cucumber, tomato, havarti cheese and TJ’s goddess dressing.

IMG_3804.jpg

And a wheat thin with Naturally Nutty vanilla AB (best ever!).

[insert more work and me passing out in class... thanks Jess :P ]

I’m not sure why I’m so exhausted today – maybe my bike + run this morning? I feel like I got hit by a ton of bricks and I’m more than ready for bedtime. After my unexpected class nap, I was ready for dinner, which was more like breakfast #2 to make up for my savoury breakfast earlier.

IMG_3806.jpg

I had some honey greek yogurt + blueberries with Barbara’s shredded oats cereal.

IMG_3805.jpg

And some TJ’s dark chocolate edamame to munch on.

Only 3 more hours of class, and then it’s straight to bed!
