Empty Fridge

Hello, and happy Friday! I’ve been pulling a lot of overtime hours for the past few days to try and make up for the sick days I had to take earlier this week, so I was really excited to finally be able to just chill out on the couch and not have to worry about getting ready for yet another day of work.

I wasn’t really in a cooking mood tonight, so dinner was basically every leftover I had merged into one meal.

I mixed the last bit of the crockpot chili with the butternut squash from yesterday, and topped it with a bunch of grated cheese.

With a leftover cornbread muffin on the side.

And a leftover beer (or two) from the fridge. Sorry Angela, the beers you left behind have mysteriously vanished from my fridge… I have no idea what happened 8)

I’m glad I got the chance to eat all the leftovers that were hanging around, because I’m going to be gone for most of the weekend and wouldn’t want them to go to waste. Plus I’ll probably have some new leftovers ready to fill up the fridge after the weekend is over. It’s Thanksgiving Weekend here in Canada, so I’ll be spending some time with my family and eating a crapload of turkey. I’m also in charge of the dessert, so I need to make sure to get that done before tomorrow night.

Betcha can’t guess what it is from this extremely vague picture of the bag of ingredients :P

I’ll see you tomorrow with my stretch pants and a (hopefully) delicious dessert!

Are you celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend? If not, are you doing something cool instead?

I Made It!

Hello from Philadelphia!

It was definitely an interesting journey, but I made it and I’m ready for the Healthy Living Summit :)

IMG_4593.jpg

Like any good trip, this one started with a bagel from Timmies. It held me over on the drive to Buffalo, which is a little longer than the drive to Toronto but so much cheaper it’s usually worth it.

I never seem to have good luck with travel, and today was no exception. While I was stuck in a long lineup at the border, I got successive phonecalls telling me my flight had been delayed one hour, then two hours, then three hours… which means I would definitely miss my connection. Luckily when I got to the airport I was switched to a direct flight that left two hours later than my original flight but would get in about the same time, so I was relieved.

Unfortunately, half an hour after we were supposed to board they announced that the plane was still on the tarmac… in Philadelphia. And that they would let us know when it would be arriving for us once it actually left. Sigh. So once again, more waiting.

I had a beer.

IMG_4605.jpg

I ate an expensive sandwich.

IMG_4602.jpg

I took pictures in the bathroom.

And I read The Help on my Kindle.

The plane did arrive eventually, and then after some more issues with shuttles and a total of 10 hours of travelling, I finally arrived at the hotel in one piece. That’s all the matters, right? :)

Plus it’s hard to not feel great when you have a whole king size bed to yourself. Those six pillows are all for me ;)

After running around airports for so long, I was pretty hungry. I munched on an apple I got from the front desk (so cute!), but my stomach was still grumbling.

I went out to try and scrounge something up for dinner, but everything seemed like it was already closed and the heavens opened up and started pouring down on me, so I hurried back to the hotel and decided that the hotel restaurant would be juuuust fine ;)

IMG_4615.jpg

The restaurant is called Thirteen, and had a simple menu that still sounded delicious.

IMG_4617.jpg

I got an unsweetened iced tea to drink while I was waiting for my meal. I <3 unsweetened iced tea, but you can’t order it at restaurants in Canada so I always take full advantage in the States.

For my actual meal I got the turkey burger topped with lettuce, tomato, red onion and turkey bacon. I’ve never had a completely turkey-ed out burger before, and it was really good. The turkey bacon made it especially awesome, and the burger was so juicy that it kept dripping on the plate.

IMG_4619.jpg

It came with a side of chips and spicy pickles, both of which were also delicious :)

To go along with an awesome meal, I had an awesome waiter. I don’t know exactly what it was about him, but he was so friendly and warm and it made my meal even better.

He even brought me a Lindt chocolate with the bill :)

Now after a long day, I can’t wait to relax and recharge for the fun to begin tomorrow.

My king-sized bed awaits! Night :)
