Nap-aholic

This morning was my last training run!

That means that I’m as prepared for the tri as I’m going to get – eek! Running has never been my strong suit and it’s what I’m most nervous about, so I was glad I got in a full 5k run to better prepare me for Saturday.

IMG_3809.jpg

I finished the 5km in 33:11, which isn’t as fast as I’d hoped to be able to run, but still better than nothing. As long as I try my best in the run, I’ll still be proud of myself :)

I refuelled with the last of my Barbara’s shredded oats cereal with blueberries + soy milk. Now that I’m out of my go-to cereal, I’m not really sure what to do with myself for breakfast tomorrow.

After a few hours of class, I was more than ready for a break. I had to run around campus on some errands, so I stopped by Subway to pick up lunch. I’d been craving a sub since my roommate got one for dinner last night, so choosing my lunch location wasn’t too difficult ;)

I know that tuna is basically the worst one you can get, but it’s my favourite, so I don’t really care all that much. I got it on honey oat with lettuce, tomato, cucumber, pickles, white cheddar and a little bit of honey mustard. So delicious! I also had an apple and a little bit of chocolate, but they escaped the camera.

Apparently all this studying and tri training at the same time has been wearing me out, because I fell asleep in class again today! I’m hoping I can break this habit soon, because binder-marks on my face aren’t very attractive :P

To try and wake myself up when I got home, I made a banana-raspberry smoothie inspired by Caitlin’s from this morning.

IMG_3816.jpg

It was really hot out today and I was actually craving a nice, cold beer, but I’m trying to stay away from all alcohol until after my tri…

IMG_3821.jpg

…so I had a smoothie in my “Beer” glass instead. That’s almost like having a beer, right? ;)

Unfortunately the smoothie didn’t do much to wake me up, because I had a 2 hour nap right after. Guess my body needs the rest?

I wasn’t really in the mood to cook, so I had a plate of brie cheese + crackers and raspberries for dinner. There was a bunch of snackage as well, including more crackers, dried mango, and various chocolates.

My mom has been down in the US for the past while, and asked if I wanted her to bring me back anything from TJ’s. I asked her to surprise me with some kind of chocolate goodie, and she brought me back dark chocolate mint creams.

She knows me well ;) These didn’t stand a chance.

Now that I’ve apparently gotten enough sleep to last me for the next while, I need to amp up the studying. Two more midterms in two days – I can do it!!

Bricked

IMG_3790.jpg

I took a chocolate PowerBar energy gel about 5km into the bike ride. This one was very similar to the Gu – it was easy to eat, but the taste wasn’t as good as the Clif Shot. I felt alot more energetic after taking it, and powered through 12.71km.

IMG_3796.jpg

I even stuck to my race pace of 27km/h! (The average speed dropped a little bit because I wheeled my bike a bit after riding.)

IMG_3792.jpg

After quickly locking up my bike, changing my shoes and blowing my nose, I was ready to run.

Running right after biking was the weirdest feeling ever – for the first few minutes it felt like I didn’t even have legs! I took off at a speedy 8:30min/mi pace (!!), probably because I was used to pedalling faster, and slowed down a lot once my lungs began feeling it.

IMG_3793.jpg

I tried to keep going even when I was moving uphill, but I had to take a few walking breaks, and ended up finishing 2mi in 20:43.

All in all, I think this was a good brick to end with, and I feel a lot more prepared for the race now that I’ve experienced the jelly legs. I’m planning on doing an easy 5km run tomorrow, and then an easy yoga class on Thursday just to stretch everything out really good, and then no more training until the race on Saturday. Unless you count eating carbs as training ;)

IMG_3797.jpg

Usually I crave sweet breakfasts, but today all I wanted was an egg + cheese sandwich from Tim Hortons, so that’s what I got. It was so good!

IMG_3801.jpg

With a banana + mugicha. I’m bringing back the barley tea for the summer!

I quickly chowed down on my breakfast before my bio midterm, which went alright… I hope. Unfortunately, the work never ends for us so I headed to a study room to begin prepping for the next midterm.

IMG_3803.jpg

While I procrastinated studied, I had a green lettuce salad with baby cucumber, tomato, havarti cheese and TJ’s goddess dressing.

IMG_3804.jpg

And a wheat thin with Naturally Nutty vanilla AB (best ever!).

[insert more work and me passing out in class... thanks Jess :P ]

I’m not sure why I’m so exhausted today – maybe my bike + run this morning? I feel like I got hit by a ton of bricks and I’m more than ready for bedtime. After my unexpected class nap, I was ready for dinner, which was more like breakfast #2 to make up for my savoury breakfast earlier.

IMG_3806.jpg

I had some honey greek yogurt + blueberries with Barbara’s shredded oats cereal.

IMG_3805.jpg

And some TJ’s dark chocolate edamame to munch on.

Only 3 more hours of class, and then it’s straight to bed!
