Alternately titled: Why Callie Doesn’t Like The Big Carrot.
I woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, which may or may not have been related to the amount of beer that was consumed last night.

I ate a bowl of cereal, rolled around in bed for an hour willing my headache to go away, and then decided to put on my big-girl panties and face the world. I had exciting plans for myself, and no hangover would get in the way of that!

After getting ready, I hopped on the subway and zoomed toward my destination. I brought a tiny apply to snack on, because I knew I’d be hungry after just a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

I’ve heard about The Big Carrot a lot, but I’m not usually in the Danforth area, so I’d never made the time to actually go. When I found myself with a free Saturday this week, I decided to take the oppourtunity to check it out. Unfortunately, this grocery store wasn’t really my cup of tea. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was underwhelmed
The store was pretty small, it was really hard navigating through the narrow aisles, everything was more expensive than WF, and the vegetarian cafe didn’t look appetizing at all.
I headed over to the juice bar to check out the options there, but didn’t feel like shelling out $20 for a juice and a tiny salad, so I left hungry and very grouchy.

Luckily, one of my favourite restaurants was on the way home
It was almost 4 (!!) by the time I got around to eating lunch, so I was a little bit past the hungry stage.

I went with the prix fixe menu, and inhaled some cornbread and hummus to start.

I’ve never considered any of their hot juices before, but it was really chilly out today and the apple pie smoothie sounded like the perfect thing to warm up with.

This drink did not disappoint – I absolutely loved it! It was really toasty, and actually tasted exactly like an apple pie

And my beloved green goddess bowl on soba noodles <3 Today’s bowl was extra awesome because it didn’t have any swiss chard – score!
What wasn’t awesome was the screaming baby sitting right next to me. The entire time I was there it was crying and crying and crying, which grated on my already-short nerves. I was trying to find my happy place, but my happy place generally doesn’t have screaming children in it. Bah.

I stopped by Menchie’s for an obligatory froyo on the way home. I filled my cup with cake batter, tart and green apple tart froyo, and topped it with graham crumbs, mochi, white chocolate chips and reeses cereal. I also had about a million samples while deciding which kinds to get. It was amazing, as always <3

I wandered the streets for a bit to take some pictures, and then hopped on the subway home.
I was really sleepy by the time I got home, and was excited to enjoy a night in with myself, my pyjamas and a movie. I watched Eat Pray Love (it was just alright), and slothed it up big time on the couch.

I had my green goddess leftovers for dinner (also on the couch).

And a chocolate chunk cookie for dessert
I don’t know how they make these cookies at Fresh, but I’m absolutely in love with them!
I’m a lot less grumpy now that my stomach’s full and I’ve had a relaxing night in. I have a wake-up call for yoga tomorrow, so hopefully I’ll be able to start Sunday off in a better mood
Have a good night!
What makes you grumpy? For me, it’s definitely being hungry, tired or feeling rushed!
