Just Call Me MacGyver
Hello! How was your Friday? I can’t say mine went by quick enough, but that’s just because I’m extra excited for the weekend
My day started with a bowl of upside-down cereal -

I figured that I love fruit so much, why not make it the main part of the dish and top it with milk and cereal?
This bowl was 1 small chopped mango + 1 chopped banana, topped with soy milk and PC protein plus cereal, and eaten out of my Peter Rabbit bowl because I’m 5 years old.

Peter sure knows how to live a healthy lifestyle, though
Lunch was a little bit of a repeat of yesterday -

The same salad (minus the dill, because I had used it all) -

Baby carrots -

A raw sweet potato that I microwaved at work and added a bit of margarine to, with an apple -

And a piece of sea salt dark chocolate.

It was awesome! The office was freezing and I was wet from the crazy rain we got today, so I was extra cold. The sweet potato was a perfect way to warm up and so easy to pack
When I got home I chilled on the couch and watched last night’s episode of Next Food Network Star and ate two slices of toast with olive oil margarine -

And then I had to pack and get ready for my trip this weekend! Nate and I are going for an overnight trip to Niagara Falls and Buffalo tomorrow, which is always our go-to trip location. We love walking along the main strip by the Falls because there’s so much to see there, and Buffalo has many of our favourite things – Cheesecake Factory, Target, unsweetened iced tea and awesome outlets. I’m bringing a cooler, because I’ve told Nate that a grocery store trip that includes items like greek yogurt is a must on our itinerary
I’m going to head to his place tonight, and we’ll leave bright and early tomorrow!
I just finished packing and blending myself up a GM for the road. I love having something to sip while I drive
I confess that the reason my reusable cup hasn’t been featured on the blog much lately is that I left it unwashed in the car for too long and I just couldn’t get it clean. I’ve looked high and low for anything that I could stick all the way through it, and I finally decided to just invent something out of the box.

I MacGyver-ed a straw cleaner out of two elastic bands and a corner of paper towel (no joke). This is why I’m in engineering
Bahahaha.

All clean and full of kale, soy milk, banana, vanilla protein, cocoa powder, agave, and ice! See you all later
What are your plans for the weekend?

Hello bloggies, hope you’re all having a good Monday
I started my day off on the right foot with a balanced breakfast – some raisin bran + milk topped with sliced bananas, and an iced coffee on the side.
Today when I was prepping my breakfast, I noticed something strange. I usually weigh my cereal when I pour it just to keep me conscious of how much a serving is, which the box said was 55g, or 1 1/2 cups. The amount I had weighed definitely looked smaller than 1 1/2 cups, so I threw it in a measuring cup and it was a little less than 1 cup. Wth??
I’ve noticed the same thing with oatmeal, where the portion is noticeably smaller when it’s weighed rather than measured. I know that weighing is probably more accurate, but I feel ripped off with such a small serving.
I ended up measuring myself 1 1/2 cups for breakfast, because I knew the tiny portion wouldn’t keep my stomach happy for very long.
What would you do – trust the serving what was weighed or the serving that was measured?
Lunch was a tasty assortment today – salad with chicken and honey dijon dressing, carrot + celery sticks for dipping, an organic apple and a chocolate coconut kashi bar
Nathan brought my the lettuce from his mother’s garden, so it was 10x as delicious as storebought lettuce. I have to workworkwork hard today, and then I can joy a night of relaxing and hopefully a nice dessert
See you all later!
Gone Bananas
I’m the queen of the alarm clock snooze – I hit the snooze button nonstop for at least half an hour every morning, and can never seem to drag myself out of bed. I also don’t seem to get hungry right away, but midway through the morning at work my stomach is already growling, even if I had a big breakfast at home.
This combination of things has made me decide that I should try out some more “portable” breakfasts that I can bring into work for when I am hungry, rather than trying to rush and eat before I leave. It won’t be as pretty as regular bowls of oats, but I think it will do a lot for my satiety throughout the day. So look forward to seeing lots of Luna bars, protein pancakes and overnight oats in tupeprware
Today was my first day of this new “plan”.
Kashi cinnamon harvest + chia seeds + soy milk + iced raspberry tea. A note on soy milk: I ended up throwing out my So Good because it was so watery and sickly-sweet that I couldn’t stand it anymore. The unsweetened Natura was such a welcome change this morning!
I had this awesome plan to pack up my cereal with a banana to slice on top, but I forgot the banana in my rush! I got hungry pretty quickly because I forgot half my breakfast, so day one was kind of a fail on the fullness front
I’ve also found lately that my lunches haven’t been very tasty or satisfying. I think that for me to feel full, I need to have some kind of grain (bread, crackers, rice, etc), and that just salad + protein + fruit doesn’t work for me. I’m going to try packing my lunches geared more towards my needs, and not what I think I should be eating.
Today was spinach salad with avocado, corn and a lion hiding in the back with some mayo + dijon dressing -
The carbs, a cornmeal muffin with fresh corn baked in -
Rounded out with an apple and some baby carrots.
I should make muffins a regular part of my day :)
