HLS Cocktail Party

Hello from Chicago!

Today was mostly spent inside my car, as it took Susan and I about 9 hours to drive from Canada to Chicago. Even though we brought enough food to feed a small family, after passing a million and a half Wendy’s signs on the highway I began to wonder what cinnamon hummus would taste like on chili. I had to know!

Looked kind of weird.

Tasted pretty good :) The whole thing got us some weird looks, and we heard someone say “They’re from Canada”. Bahahaha.

Once we got parked and into our room and unpacked and settled in, I realized I was pretty hungry and made a cinnamon hummus sandwich with 2 cookies, and ate some more hummus with apple slices.

It was almost 5:00, so we headed down to pick up our swag!

I’ll probably show the contents of the bag later, but I will say now that it was pretty awesome ;) I broke out one of the mini Larabars to eat before getting ready for the cocktail party.

We primped, polished and gussied up to our finest :)

The cocktail party was held at LaSalle Power Co, which wasn’t too far from the hotel.

Unfortunately, although I’ve been legal in Canada for almost 2 years now, I’m still not 21 and had to get the dreaded X’s. Boo :(

We grabbed some food when we first went in, and I was a little nervous so I wasn’t too hungry. I had a mini turkey slider, a caprese skewer, a tortilla chip with spinach dip and some salad.

And club soda to drink all night. Bubbly!

I got to meet tons of awesome ladies, and it was kind of a blur because there were so many new faces and names and I just couldn’t keep them all straight. Tomorrow is going to be insane!

Roomies! :) Susan, me, Theresa and Julie.

IMG_6408.JPG

It was so packed!

IMG_6411.JPG

They also had a fun photobooth that you could go into and take pictures :) We crammed all of us inside and went crazy!

Hillary and I.

Caitlin and I :)

IMG_6416.JPG

And most of the Toronto girls! Me, Sarah, Morgan, Theresa (honorable Toronto girl lol) and Miranda. All looking beautiful ;)

There was a frozen yogurt trip in the making after the cocktail party, but somehow it went wrong and we all ended up scattering back to the hotel for an earlier night. I was pretty hungry, so I ate a Luna bar (and 2 unpictured cookies).

And now it’s past my bedtime so I’m off to get ready for bed ;) Today was a little nerve-wracking with the driving and meeting so many people, and tomorrow should be pretty crazy too. See you tomorrow!

Busy Day Before HLS!

Hey everyone, how’s your Thursday? :) I’m so busy prepping for the road trip down to Chicago! I’ve been running around cleaning and packing and cooking and essentially going insane. But I am packed now (mostly).

Innocent coconuts were hurt during the process.

IMG_6349.JPG

All of that liquid on the ground is coconut water. I cried a little inside, but I was in a hurry and didn’t have drill bits to get it out before the smashing :(

I started off the day early, and brought my lunch into work.

IMG_6342.JPG

A cinnamon hummus (!!) bowl with greek + vanilla yogurt, banana and blueberries. It was so delicious!

Lunch was eaten on the run, because I had to stop by the civic court to take care of a speeding ticket I got a few months ago in a very unfortunate situation. It was a pain in the butt going through the process of dealing with it, but I’m glad it’s done and paid, and only came out to about $60.

IMG_6339.JPG

Quick leftovers and cut up carrot + apple slices, with a chocolate peppermint stick Luna bar :)

Then I came home, thought about resting for a bit, and decided that I wanted to finish up my packing and head to the gym for a quick run before I had to go pick up Susan from the subway station. Now I’m basically coming up on my “very latest time you have to leave by” deadline, but what else is new? ;) I made dinner while I was packing, but didn’t really feel hungry so I packed it up and will probably eat it after the gym or when we arrive in Kitchener.

Just sauté some chickpeas in a pan with curry, fresh chopped coconut and almond milk.

IMG_6354.JPG

Steam some broccoli.

IMG_6355.JPG

And voila!

I think I did pretty well on my to-do list for the week.

  • I exercised every day, even today (which I hadn’t included in my plan).
  • I did all of my laundry (except for hand washables), and even though I didn’t clean as well as I had hoped, I still did a pretty good job.
  • All packed up!
  • I’m not sure I drank enough water every day this week :( Still trying, though!
  • Didn’t start on my work term report either, oops!

So that’s about a 3.5/5, right? ;)

Anyway, I’m off to throw some last minute things in my suitcase and double-check that I didn’t forget anything (which I probably did anyway), get sweaty on the treadmill, and then pick up my HLS road trip date. Have a good night!
