Champagne for Breakfast

IMG_8840.JPG

Pop the champagne open, we’re celebrating early today! ;)

After a quick free yoga session at Lululemon (which I’ve missed so much since I moved away from Toronto!!), Nate and I headed to Yorkville for a birthday brunch at one of our favourite places – MoRoCo Chocolat.

They have such a cute style of decor and the atmosphere is so nice! It feels like you’re sitting inside of a fairytale.

Although we’ve gotten froyo from there many times before, we’ve never actually sat down for a meal because it’s a little too fancy for an everyday meal for us. It seemed like a great idea for a birthday, though, so we decided to head over for their Sunday morning brunch.

To celebrate the occasion, we both ordered some champagne. I could get used to champagne with my breakfast every day ;)

After looking over the menu, I knew that I definitely wanted the pastry basket, because it was the only thing on the menu that came with chocolate.

I was expecting a few mini pastries, but the basket came with three full-sized croissants (one full of chocolate!), as well as an apple loaf and some lemon cakes.

I was also brought butter, jam and dipping chocolate on the side. I ate pastries smeared in all three until I was stuffed, but it seemed like I didn’t even make a dent in the basket, so I ended up taking a box home with me. I even got to take the little jar of jam home!

I really, really enjoyed the brunch at MoRoCo, and I hope we’ll be able to go back again sometime! It was the best birthday date ever, and I’m so glad Nate took me

Afterward we walked around the neighbourhood and checked out a few stores (including my beloved Whole Foods), and then headed down the street to Mon Berri. We were still stuffed from brunch, but I bought a groupon for this froyo shop a while ago and wanted to use it before it expired or the weather got even colder.

I got an original with strawberries, blueberries and mochi, and it was good but I ended up not being able to finish it because I was still stuffed with fancy pastries.

The rest of the afternoon disappeared between shopping, walking around and driving, and by the time we made it home I was exhausted and feeling the effects of such a busy weekend with such a bad cold. All I wanted to do was curl up in bed, but we threw together a quick dinner first.

Some scrambled eggs, a piece of toast with butter and some leftover spicy caramelized “callieflower” with mayo.

I also managed to find the energy to have a slice of cake and a mini cupcake ;)

Now I’m really exhausted and ready to pass out forever! Or at least until I’m caught up on a weekend’s worth of sleep and my cold has disappeared. I’m off to cuddle up under the gorgeous quilt that Nathan got me for my birthday :)

Good night!

Take Two

Hello blog friends :)

Sorry for being MIA yesterday – I was so tired that I was already sound asleep on the car ride home. Everyone came up to my apartment to say their goodbyes before leaving, but I was basically curled up on the bed snoring with beluga the minute I stepped through the door, and Nate had to be the good host. Did I mention this was only around midnight? Clearly I’m a grandma and can’t be taken anywhere past my bedtime ;)

I had an amazing night, though. We started off with going to see the Harry Potter Exhibition at the Ontario Science Centre, which was just okay. It was basically a short display of some of the costumes and props used in the movies, and while it was fun, I’m glad we only had to pay the discounted price of $16. We were planning on going to an Asian vegetarian restaurant afterwards, but I read some reviews of it online and they were a little off-putting, so I suggested another nearby veggie location. Can you guess where? ;)

Oh yes. I’ve been dreaming about Fresh ever since going on Thursday with some Toronto blog friends, and I was all over the opportunity to suggest it again ;) This time I got the Yellow Brick Road juice (orange, carrot and banana) and the Green Goddess bowl on soba noodles.

IMG_6808.JPG

This bowl was off. the. freaking. hook. I think it might end up being one of those things I order over and over again without ever trying anything new on the menu, just because it’s that good. I think next time I would ask for tofu instead of tempeh (ever since my first time eating tempeh I just haven’t liked the taste of it, and tofu = love), but everything else was excellent. The pickled ginger was really the icing on the cake – I love that stuff so much!! Nate ordered the BBQ burger because he said he had never had a good veggie burger before and wanted to give them another try, and he proclaimed his burger “the best veggie burger ever”.

I was absolutely starving when we got there and ate until I was stuffed, and it still looked like I’d barely made a dent in my bowl! I packed up the rest, and it made a great lunch for today.

After our amazing dinner, we managed to find room for some MoRoCo froyo.

I got a small original topped with strawberries, blackberries and toffee bits. I found out that you’re actually not supposed to take the to-go containers onto their patio (which explains the weird looks Susan and I got from the servers when we got froyo last time), and that if you order stay-in froyo it’s twice the price 8O Eek! Luckily they were really nice and gave us the “rainy Saturday special”, and charged us to-go price while still letting us sit on the covered part of the patio.

Maybe this is the norm in Toronto, but I’ve never heard of a policy like this, so at least I know now :) It could just be me, though – I did get yelled at in Chicago for sitting on a table in the lobby. I hope my grandma isn’t reading this. I don’t think she would approve.

My food today was far from inspired, so I don’t feel the need to snap photos. (My dinner consisted of some cantaloupe and a spoonful of peanut butter – does anyone really need to see that?) It was more of a nap-and-graze day, which was perfect for a rainy Sunday. Nate and I managed to squeeze in a yoga session and 2 movies (Catch Me If You Can and Ponyo) between naps, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed :) I was sad to see him leave after spending the weekend together, but I’m days away from moving back for the school term so I know we’ll get to see more of each other soon.

Tomorrow is my last Monday at work!! Gotta rest up – see you all tomorrow :)
