Making Room For Yoga

Good evening, blog friends :) Hope your night was productive and relaxing!

After work I was ready for a nap, but I knew I had a lot of work to do around the apartment so I fuelled up with a chocolate cherry green monster and got to work.

The green monster contained 1 cup chocolate almond milk, 2 large handfuls spinach, 1/4 frozen banana, 7 frozen pitted cherries, 1 scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate SuperFood, 1/2 tbsp chia seeds and 5 ice cubes.

In the past few days I’ve polished off almost one pound of spinach. My iron levels must be off the charts!

Yesterday, Whitney asked me about where I keep all my dishes, and I said that I would post photos. It’s a little embarrassing how my kitchen has exploded everywhere, but I thought it would at least make people laugh :P

Now, before you judge, keep in mind that I’m currently living in a tiny bachelor apartment with a kitchen so small I can’t even fully extend my arms before hitting the walls. The lack of space and fact that the only light comes in from behind where I have to stand makes it not very effective for a food blogger, but I’m not complaining because I get to live here rent-free while my mom is away :)

Anyway, on to the dishes! I try to keep my cupboards arranged nicely, because they’re pretty full and can start to look really messy when everything is just thrown in.

I keep all the matching dishware together (the green striped ones I’ve been using actually belong to my mother), and I stack all my fancy bowls in their own pile. My dishware is actually the plain off-white kind you can get for $0.79 each from IKEA, but I didn’t see the sense in dragging it all here when my mom has perfectly good dishes.

Stack o’ fancy bowls :)

I try to keep my tupperware drawer organized as well, but it’s a little harder because it almost is overflowing!

Now the embarrassing part. There’s enough room in the kitchen cupboards and drawers for my dishes, pots and pans, and the majority of my food, but there’s just no squeezing everything in there. As well as keeping a bunch of stuff on top of the fridge, having a separate table just outside the kitchen for the microwave and rice cooker, and another little cupboard next to the table for the toaster, mini-grill and crockpot, I have things lying around under the table -

The three cubes in the corner are holding food – a box of Japanese food, a box of baking supplies, and all the bulk bags of dried grains.

I keep my food processor and it’s accessories next to the television, and until today there was also an ice cream maker sitting there.

And there’s a few boxes of kitchen stuff (some of it mine, some of it my mom’s that I knew I wouldn’t use) on the top shelf in the closet, because there’s really nowhere else to put it.

I would explain why I have so much crap, but I honestly don’t know. I really don’t. It all just kind of showed up over time, and I’m expecting the people from Hoarders to barge in with a camera one day soon. I am trying to downsize a little bit, which has so far consisted of packing up the ice cream maker to bring back home, and thinking about getting a mini food processor so I can ditch the big one. I think my mom is rolling her eyes as she reads this.

Dinner was more leftover lasagna (the last, I promise!) on a bed of spinach with some fresh cucumber slices. I didn’t plan on having so many leftovers, but I forgot to send some home with Nate on Sunday and had to eat it all myself. The lasagna actually seemed to get better with time, and it really grew on me :) I’m even a little sad that it’s all gone.

After dinner I finished up the laundry I had started earlier, and then headed out to give Goodlife yoga another go. I thought that maybe the regular instructor would be back today, but it was the same woman as before, and I ended up just getting up and leaving before she started the class. I really don’t enjoy her class just because it’s way too slow for me and really only has about 2 real poses in the entire hour, so I went home and decided to do a Yoga Download video instead. I did the Baptiste Power Flow #3, and I was so surprised by how funny the guy in the video was. I kept cracking up!

I took a funny picture of me doing my favourite pose (with the camera propped up on the food processor ;) ).

After my quick yoga session I brought out the food processor to make a small batch of banana soft serve.

I served it in a cute bowl, with a Honey Graham Z-Bar on top. I also had a few handfuls of chocolate chips that escaped the camera. Even though I did a lot tonight, I feel like I’m not even close to being through my to-do list for the week! I still need to clean the apartment, go for a run, pack up for the HLS, read and return a library book, and make some road trip snacks (maybe some cinnamon hummus? ;) ). Plus anything else that pops up before Thursday night. Eek!

I’m off to maybe work a little more and then sleep. Have a restful night :)

Turtle Tuesday

Hello blog friends! Yesterday just flew by, but today seems to be dragging on and on.

My sleep last night flew by, though, and before I knew it I was running around trying to shower and pack my lunch. I made an impromptu breakfast with a chopped mango topped with greek + vanilla yogurt and granola -

And packed a healthy lunch.

I’ve never been one to go out for lunch – I always feel like I’d be happier eating my own food, and it seems like such a waste of money. At $5 minimum for a meal, that’s a weekly savings of $25!

Today’s lunch featured some more leftover lasagna on a bed of spinach.

Some cucumber slices drizzled in balsamic, and fresh cherries + grapes.

And some almonds + chocolate chips, with a couple of green tea Milky candies :) This was supposed to be an afternoon snack, but it looked so good that I ate it with my lunch!

Plans for tonight include working on my to-do list for the week, and hopefully some yoga and lots of sleep :) Updates later!

Do you usually buy lunch out, or pack your own?
