Bike + Swim

Hello lovely readers :) Happy hump day!

Even though I had to be on campus all day and won’t get to head home until later tonight, I still managed to squeeze in two workouts :)

IMG_3539.jpg

My morning started off bright and early with a bike ride! Luckily the weather was nice and sunny, so I headed out to my usual trail for a long-ish ride. As well as getting in some much-needed training before my triathlon, I was using this morning’s ride as a chance to start testing out some gels as part of Operation Don’t-Puke-All-Over-Myself-On-Tri-Day.

I chose the chocolate Clif Shot gel as my first one, because I love Clif bars and figured that beginning with a brand I know would be a good idea. I kept it in one of my back shirt pockets, and took it about 5km into the ride. The flavour was amazing – it tasted exactly like chocolate frosting! Unfortunately it was also the same consistency as icing, and was really hard to eat as I was biking because it kept sticking everywhere inside of my mouth.

I finished 15.56km in 37:40, which was slower than my ideal race pace but still a good ride :)

Today was really hot again, so I stopped at Tim Hortons on the way to school for an iced cappuccino made with chocolate milk. So good!

Actual breakfast was some of the new PC honey greek yogurt (which is pretty good, but still not as delicious as Liberte vanilla) with mango chunks, and Barbara’s oat squares on the side.

IMG_3549.jpg

I love eating cereal dry, and these oat squares are great. They’re really good for munching on when studying.

After a morning of classes, my roommate and I headed to the pool for a swim. It’s a million degrees outside, so we were more than ready to jump in the pool by the time we got there. I swam 1500m while we were there, and was pretty glad to get out again once those 1500 metres were over. Two workouts in a day is tiring!

IMG_3331.jpg

I practically inhaled my bagel when I got to class again.

IMG_3421.jpg

And a salad for good measure ;)

The rest of my day is pretty busy, but at least class is over for now. Anyway, now that blogging is done for the day, I’m off to work on a lab report and go to an engineering society meeting. I hear they’re going to be providing tacos for dinner!

See ya later :)

Just Keep Swimming

Hello blog friends!

How were your weekends? I had a fun time pubcrawling, catching up on sleep and spring cleaning. It was the perfect mix of fun, relaxation and productivity. Even though I like weekends so much more than Mondays, I guess they wouldn’t be as awesome without Mondays to compare them too, right? ;) Monday means back to work, and back to routine office eats.

Breakfast was vegan overnight oats, which I haven’t craved in so long. I’m glad I finally want them back in my life, because they’re one of the easiest breakfasts to prepare ahead of time and just grab-and-go in the morning. I added a scoop of Chocolate Amazing Grass Green Superfood to make it extra chocolatey, and mixed the VOO together with a chopped ataulfo mango. So delicious <3

IMG_2478.jpg

Lunch, on the other hand, was a little boring. Everything bagel thin with cream cheese, a fuji apple and some sugar snap peas. Meh.

My afternoon snack was another homemade trail mix (expect to see a lot of these in the next little while!) with hazelnuts, peanuts, chocolate-covered raisins and an adora disk.

I was at work a little late today, so by the time I got home, I wanted something quick and easy.

Luckily, dinner came together in a flash.

IMG_2482.jpg

The past few times I’ve tried to make hard-boiled eggs they’ve come out completely runny inside, and I was beginning to develop a complex. Good thing these ones came out perfect ;)

IMG_2488.jpg

I mixed them up with some mayo and salt + pepper, and served half of the egg salad over some spring greens with toast + earth balance (the other half is going to be for lunch tomorrow).

IMG_2487.jpg

With sweet gherkins on the side.

IMG_2489.jpg

And some Madagascar Vanilla Rooibos tea. I’ve been looking forever for a tea to replace my beloved Candy Cane Lane, and I think I’ve finally found a winner. I’ve been sipping this stuff all day and still not sick of it :)

After chilling on the couch for a bit, I headed over to the pool for my first training swim! I haven’t swam in a while so I felt a little blah at first, but I got in 1100m of easy swimming and felt pretty good afterwards. I keep feeling like a tri is going to kill me, but I’m trying to remember that this is only the beginning of training, and 3 months from now will be a lot different.

Here is a lovely picture of me with post-swim hair and crazy goggle lines from my cheap Walmart goggles. I bet you can just imagine what I look like with a swim cap on. Ohhh yeeeeeahhh ;)

I had planned on having ice cream or something when I got home, but all I wanted was a pb + banana smoothie, so that’s what I had. Unsweetened soy milk, a frozen banana, a spoonful of both PB2 and White Chocolate Wonderful PB, 1/2 scoop of vegetable protein, xanthan gum and some ice went into the blender, and out came the best smoothie ever. I seriously inhaled it.

Maybe it was the glass? ;) Anyway, I’m off to cuddle with my Kindle and hopefully catch some zzz’s. Night night!
