Sushi Coma

Hello! How has your Tuesday been? :)

Mine started off pretty good, with a chocolatey breakfast.

Last night I made a batch of overnight oats with 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup vanilla greek yogurt, 2/3 cup almond milk, 1 scoop Amazing Grass Chocolate SuperFood, and 1 tbsp chia seeds, and then added a chopped banana and cacao nibs in the morning. I haven’t had any Chocolate SuperFood in a while, and I’ve missed the grassy taste. Now that I’m out of my regular vanilla protein powder, I think I’ll be eating more of this :)

I packed my own lunch to bring to school for the first time in a while (I’ve mostly been getting Tim’s on campus between classes, partly out of convenience and partly because bagels are delicious). Today, I brought some sauerkraut and Oktoberfest sausage leftover from dinner at home with my parents last night. I brought some Oktoberfest mustard in the little jam jar from my birthday brunch at MoRoCo, and a small apple for the side.

Afternoon snack was a Zone oatmeal cookie dough bar, which I ate before spending all afternoon struggling through a programming lab.

The lab was absolutely brutal, and even after almost 5 hours, almost no one was able to finish, so my roommates and I decided to call it quits and head home for the day. There was a lot of talk about large amounts of biscuits and pasta and baked goods when we got home, but we were at the point where when someone said “All-you-can-eat sushi?” we practically ran out the door.

We headed to Ye’s Sushi, which is the go-to AYCE sushi place in town. The last time I went I didn’t really enjoy the food so I was a little worried it would be the same this time, but I was really craving sushi, and we were all so hungry we were pretty much ready to eat the whole world.

While we were waiting for our first round of sushi to come out, I helped myself to the pickled ginger, and basically ate all of it by myself. I love ginger!

Then it was time for the real sushi feast to start ;)

Salmon sashimi, which is by far my favourite sushi item. The fish tonight was really fresh, unlike last time, and it was buttery and perfect and I think I ate about a million pieces.

We got a bunch of various kinds of sushi to try,

Taro chips,

Tempura tofu,

Deep fried banana with chocolate sauce,

Sweet potato tempura,

Salmon “pizza” (kind of like a deep-fried rice patty topped with salmon, spicy sauce and fish roe),

And a gold dragon roll. We ate it all, with me dominating pretty much anything that had salmon in it. So good!

Even though I was pretty full, I couldn’t turn down green tea + red bean ice cream. My favourite every time! :)

Sushi was exactly what we needed after a stressful afternoon, and it was really fun to go out and have a nice meal during the week for no reason, which I can’t say I’ve really done before.

Now that I’m pleasantly full of sushi, I’m ready to settle in bed for the night with a good book textbook ;) Have a good night!

What’s your favourite kind of sushi? Mine is salmon nigiri!

Snooze Queen

Hello :) I hope you all had a less-rushed morning than I did!

I’m definitely not a morning person, and I’m notoroious for pressing the snooze button a million times, or even turning the alarm off because I don’t want it to bother me anymore ;) I’m not quite sure what happened in my sleep haze this morning, but somehow I ended up waking up about 20 minutes before I had to be in at work, which was about an hour after my alarm was supposed to be waking me up.

I had to skip my shower (I feel so gross, I didn’t shower after Body Pump last night! :? ) and throw together a last minute lunch before sprinting out the door. Luckily I had made some overnight oats for breakfast, so that part was already taken care of.

My mix contained:

  • 1/3 cup oats
  • 1/3 cup greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup cottage cheese
  • 1 sliced banana
  • last of the blueberries
  • sprinkle of flax
  • maple syrup

Lunch wasn’t very well thought out due to the rush, but it wasn’t too bad.

The same tempeh sandwich as yesterday (minus the avocado), some grapes, a large carrot and a brownie Z-Bar. It’s actually held me over pretty well so far, but I’m dreaming about what I can make for dinner already. Actually, I’m mostly dreaming about the shower I’m going to have ;)

Exciting plans for tonight, but more on that later!
