Will Bike for Panera

Hello blog friends! :)

Do you ever have days where you wake up and think it’s Friday, and you just can’t shake the feeling? That happened to me today, and it sucked every time I remembered that it wasn’t Friday quite yet.

Maybe I was so confused about what day it was because of the bizarre evening I had last night. After dinner I felt too tired to even keep my eyes open, so I laid down for a quick rest and woke up 4 hours later completely disoriented and extremely nauseous. I laid in bed and willed myself not to mon (<—funny but kinda gross!), and ended up sleeping for another 8 hours. I felt better this morning, so I have no idea where that came from :? Weird!

I had a simple breakfast just in case my stomach wasn’t quite over whatever it had last night – crispy rice cereal with soy milk and banana slices. Still delicious, and luckily my stomach decided to behave normally again :)

Lunch was a fancy salad that was made of mixed greens topped with fuji apple, walnuts and golden raisins. I made a dressing with olive oil, honey, balsamic vinegar and s+p which went really well with it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as filling as my usual lunches!

Luckily I had a banana, a leftover Pecan Date Bar and an adora disc for snacks. (Also the rest of the apple, which was hiding on top of the salad container.)

Almost every Thursday I head to my friend’s house for some biking, which I always look forward to even though I know he’s going to try and kill me with intervals. His house is also close to the only Panera in the area, and I’m always heading over to his place straight after work and in need of a quick dinner. How convenient, right? ;)

Napa almond chicken salad sandwich, I’ll never leave you again <3 Except maybe for soup and a salad someday when I’m feeling adventurous again.

Pickle!!

I asked for my apple sliced this time, mostly so I could watch them use their cool apple-slicer.

Confession: one of the reasons I love Panera is that you can get free sparkling water with lemon. Even though they only give you small cups with no lids, which I assume is discouragement from taking them to go, I’ve definitely grabbed a cup for the car ride before. Dangerous, but so worth it ;) I chugged this glass before I left the restaurant today, along with inhaling half of my sandwich.

After an intense biking session (we did 30 straight minutes of intervals today!), I finished off the rest of the sandwich and the apple slices I hadn’t already polished off.

Now the question is… to have dessert or not to have dessert? I really wanted a Pecan Date Bar with ice cream on top, but I might just have the rest of my daily adora disc allotment and call it a day… decisions, decisions!

The Announcement

Hello blog friends! How have your Thursdays been? :)

IMG_2384.jpg

Mine started off on the right foot with a delicious breakfast. Soy milk + crispy rice cereal + banana may sound a little boring, but nothing beats this combo. I’m already planning on having the exact same thing tomorrow ;)

[insert a morning of workworkwork]

Lunch from a bare fridge: everything bagel thin with organic cream cheese (I can’t believe how different it tastes from regular cream cheese!), veggies, a fuji apple and some dark chocolate.

[insert an afternoon of more workworkwork]

Afternoon snack was some homemade trail mix. I’ve been trying to use up the odds and ends I’ve had around my kitchen for a while now, and now that I’m almost completely out of easy snacks like granola bars, I’ve had to get a little creative. This mix contained almonds, peanuts, pepitas, dried cranberries and chocolate-covered raisins.

After work I headed across town to meet up with a friend for some bike training, but I stopped in at Panera to grab dinner first. I decided to try the turkey artichoke panini, which was good but still doesn’t come close to my beloved napa chicken salad sandwich.

And an apple <3 I love you, Panera.

So, why am I training on a bike with a friend? Well…

I’ve signed up for a triathlon.

Have I ever done any kind of race before? No. Have I gone insane? Probably.

But I’m doing it.

Doing a triathlon has always been on my bucket list, and I was planning on doing one sometime waaaay aways in the future. I’m busy with school now and it never seemed like the right time, but all of the sudden I realized – why not now? Before I knew it, my brain had exploded and I was officially signed up for the Guelph Lake I Sprint Triathlon in June. Um, what!?

I’ve never been the most athletic person or felt like I would be able to do something like this, but I want to prove to myself that I can, and I will. I’m definitely nervous and I don’t really have any time goals in mind. I’d just like to finish and be proud of accomplishing that, and maybe even be brave enough to do one again in the future.

Meet my bike. I got it on Kijiji for a super low price, and even though it’s a little retro and not the nicest bike out there, I love it and all of it’s quirks :) I’m still working on a cool name (Captain Starburst? Sunrider? Bike?), so if you have any suggestions, feel free to throw them out there!

Luckily, my friend and his family are really into biking, and he has a sweet setup in his basement that you can use to train in the winter when it’s too cold to ride outside. He’s going to be doing the triathlon with me, so we both need to train up. I’ve been doing some rides with him on Thursdays before we watch Big Bang Theory (no new episode tonight, boo!), and have gotten to the point where my butt doesn’t want to die immediately.

My official training schedule begins next week, and I’m excited (and scared) to actually get started.

I’m totally gonna rock this triathlon… right?
