Boring Day

Hello! I just want to say thank you to everyone for your kind comments about my fridge situation – I was upset and pretty angry, but it is only food, and having everyone to empathize and share positivity made it feel a lot less significant :)

For breakfast today I had some macadamia butter, banana slices and shredded coconut on a piece of multigrain bread. I was in a bit of a hurry so it actually wasn’t toasted, but I kind of like the doughy texture of bread better than toast anyway.

I also broke out the Bodum after a bit of a lazy-induced break. Fresh coffee in the morning is awesome!

Lunch was pretty average today too – last night I packed up the leftover spaghetti on a bed of kale and crumbled up the last of my tofu onto it.

And then in the morning I added an apple and a Luna bar as snacks.

After work I munched on some almonds and the last of the anko, and then headed to Body Pump. Today was the first day of the new release (I think it was 74?) and I was really excited to check it out! When I heard that the bicep track was to Boom Boom Pow, I was so excited I almost peed myself  Not really, but you get the idea. I’m not sure why, but I find it the most energizing song ever and I love including it in my workout mixes. The new lunge track was also INSANE – about a minute in half the class dropped their weights and just tried to stick it out until the end. I thought my legs were going to fall off!

After class I grabbed a few groceries (mostly fresh produce I needed), and then headed straight home because I was craving a green monster like crazy!

The GM contained:

  • 3/4 cup soymilk
  • 1 small scoop vanilla protein
  • 2 large handfuls of kale
  • 1 frozen blob of mango
  • ~1/2 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 tsp xanthan gum
  • ice

I got into the dangerous spillage zone during the photoshoot, so I wrapped it up pretty quick.

I have a bad habit of leaving cups lying around, so I usually have to clear my side table before photographing my food so it doesn’t look like I’m a huge slob. I thought it would be funny to show you all the stuff I had to move of the table to fit my smoothie today ;)

Bahahaha.

I know my eats today weren’t very extraordinary, but I promise I have some more exciting meals up my sleeve for tomorrow! :) Lately I’ve been feeling really apathetic about my food and haven’t really been into anything I’ve been eating (except the smoothies), so I decided to devote a little extra time to meal planning today and hopefully I can pull myself out of my food rut. Now I’m off to eat some chocolate and work on my school assignment.

Have a wonderful night!

A Sad Day for Fridges

So when I got home today, I was expecting to sit down and relax, maybe cook some dinner and put away dishes. Just the usual, you know? What I wasn’t expecting was this:

What the -? Then I remembered that I had submitted a maintenance request for my fridge to the apartment management, because the door didn’t close properly anymore and it was getting progressively worse. I looked around for the electrician and called out, “Hello…?” which was kind of stupid (unless he was hiding in the closet) seeing as I live in a bachelor. Then I noticed the note:

IMG_5371.JPG

Um, what? I checked all the food left out on the counter and in the sink. The butter was soft, the cheese was warm, the ice trays were leaking water all over. All my frozen food was completely melted and ruined. Seriously, who the hell fixes someone’s fridge and leaves all the food on the counter for hours?? I had at least 6 bags of frozen fruit (including a huge bag of bananas and pitted cherries that I froze myself), some specialty ice cream, a Whole Foods pizza, a big bag of frozen chicken, among other costly stuff that I had to throw out. I put some of the stuff back into the freezer and put almost everything back into the fridge with the hopes that it will be okay in the end, but I have the feeling a lot will end up in the garbage.

:( :( :(

I ate my last cupcake. What else was I to do at a time like this?

The building was taken over by new management a few months ago, and the quality has taken a huge nosedive since they came in. Floors are dirty and wet all the time, the garbage cans outside are overflowing, they installed really expensive meters on the visitor parking, and they don’t give enough notice to legally enter apartments for things like fire alarm checks. I actually think they sent me a notice saying they would fix the fridge on the 16th, but they didn’t come so I assumed they just decided not to show up. Needless to say, I’ve been looking into other apartments for a while.

But let’s talk about dinner now.

Simple and easy.

The fresh basil was from Nathan’s garden.

Dessert was an extremely liquidy re-frozen green tea ice cream I felt the need to try and salvage, with a scoop of anko mixed in. It was delicious, but made me sad :( I’m going to go drink some tea and hug my whale. Do you think you can re-freeze bananas and cherries?
